BookWitty Social is a small, independent site about reading. We review literary fiction, put together reading lists with reasons attached, and write guides to Book Twitter, the crowd of readers who talk about books on X. Everything on the site is written by the BookWitty Team.
What we review
Mostly novels published in roughly the last decade: prize winners, book club favorites and the books people keep pressing on each other. We read every book in full before we write about it. We pick our own books, nobody pays for coverage, and a famous author or a big prize does not buy a kind review.
How a review works
Every review follows the same shape, because we think it's the most useful one:
- a one-line witty take, the version we'd give a friend in a bookstore;
- a tweet-sized review under 280 characters, with a button to share it on X;
- the full review, usually 650 to 900 words, with no spoilers past the setup;
- a "read it if" and a "skip it if," so you can tell quickly whether it's for you;
- the basic facts: author, year, rough page count and genre.
We keep quotations from books very short and always credited. We'd rather describe what a writer does than paste a paragraph of it.
Why Twitter
Readers have been swapping recommendations on Twitter, now X, for as long as it has existed, and a 280-character review is a surprisingly good test of whether you know what you think about a book. So each review ends up in a size you can post, and our Book Twitter guides cover finding readers on X, writing threads and running a club there. The tweet-sized review helper is free and runs in your browser.
What we don't do
No ads, no affiliate links, no sponsored posts and no tracking. We don't sell anything. If we ever change any of that, we'll say so on this page first.
A note on this domain
BookWitty Social was relaunched in 2026 as a new, independent site. Older pages from previous versions of this domain, including member profiles, are not part of it and no longer exist.
