Do all the cool kids run #OpenBSD? The reason I want to run it is because I just want to boot to console and because installing a desktop environment on it wouldn't be as easy for me as it is for me to do it on linux, idk.
Anyways, as a console-only mode OS (for my case (coding, browsing the web via lynx and checking mail)) would it be a nice choice?
@deavmi No idea about the cool kids, but you might just stop the X server from running on boot to get your console login instead of the display manager.
@cwood Just switch ttys also
@deavmi True, but then you have to look at an X display manager first. ;)
@deavmi I thought your TTY switch point meant boot with the X server running and then switch TTYs, but I am apparently still mentally on vacation and not totally with it.
@deavmi console only is quite difficult on openBSD. the console doesn't use the entire screen. the boot screen uses the full screen at the Lowest resolution. once it boots it goes into a situation where it will be using only the centre portion. if u have to use the full screen real estate on a modern laptop, u have to have X running.
@srinicame So sticking to debian for console-only will then be the way to go won't it?
@deavmi yes, that's the way for console only
@srinicame or in my case, use fedora minimal.
