Which do you prefer? Ebooks or physical books?
How eBooks lost their shine: 'Kindles now look clunky and unhip' https://www.theguardian.com/books/2017/apr/27/how-ebooks-lost-their-shine-kindles-look-clunky-unhip-?CMP=Share_AndroidApp_Copy_to_clipboard
@Stoori definitely the advantage of ebooks in my eyes as well: useful for travelling and the ability to carry them around without any difficulty!
@baeticat Physical books for sure. But for certain things—books about programming, etc—I'll go with eBooks because of pricing.
@postmodem you never find yourself wanting to highlight something in your books? For my studies I usually buy hardcopy books even though the ebooks are way cheaper
@baeticat I don't usually, but that's not really my learning style. I tend not to be a big note-taker.
@baeticat For most fiction, ebooks. For most non-fiction (especially work related with equations), paper.
I definitely do a lot of long form (+12 hours reading) on my phone, too. I'm actually more likely to finish a (fiction) ebook than the paper version.
@AgNO3Kate ooh interesting. I also read a lot on my phone, but that's usually news paper articles and such, never books. I have an ereader for novels :) never wanted to invest into an ereader?
@baeticat I have an ereader! I like the battery life and not-bright screen, but I hate how it sometimes skips ahead and it's a separate thing to carry around and keep track of.
@AgNO3Kate which ereader do you have?
@baeticat A Nook from like 2008 or something
@baeticat Also, I HATE drm on books so much and ereaders go full out on that nonsense.
@ari true that! new and old books alike smell great :D
@baeticat kindles are still very practical. I need to carry my laptop almost daily, notebooks, etc, it gets really heavy mainly because I spend like 2 hours in commute. Specially when reading big books and I know I'll need to take two because I'm almost finishing the other.
But other than that, books all the way. There's nothing like shelves full of books in a house.
@helena yup, same goes for me. I also prefer small paperback books over hard covers. I've also got tiny hands so huge books are quite a handful haha
@baeticat I bought a hardback version of A Casual Vacancy and haven't read it because of that. Too heavy to carry with me and I don't like to read more than one book at a time. I know, me too!!
@baeticat Both, why limit my options? No more Kindles though, I don't like the Amazon lock-in
@panoramix kindles never appealed to me either, I've got a first generation Kobo Aura and I'm pretty satisfied with it!
@baeticat For me ebooks have always been just a supplement for the moment when I'm traveling and my stock of print books runs out before I'm back home. In those cases I use my phone to read them.
